Abstract
PURPOSE: To make welding of materials, which are extremely difficult to weld, with less equipment costs, at the time of welding the portions to be welded within a chamber filled with an inert gas, by making said chamber dividedly mountable and dismountable.
CONSTITUTION: Materials to be welded, particularly, heat-resisting alloys W1, W2, such as Ni or Ti-base alloy, are clamped by electrodes 11, 12 and clampers 9, 10 by slightly parting the surfaces to be welded at their end faces. At the same time, the clearances between chambers 1, 1' and the materials W1, W2 are sealed by sealing material 5. Thence, removable side walls 13, 13' are fitted in the direction normal to the materials W1, W2 from the side faces and are fixed at one end by two latches 15. In addition, the projections at the other end are so fixed by rings 14 such as rubber rings or iron wires as to sandwich the side walls 13, 13'. After the chambers 1, 1' are set in this way, an inert gas such as Ar is flowed into the chambers through the inflow port 4 in their lower part to sufficiently fill the chamber inside. A cover 6 is then placed on the upper part of the chambers. Thence, electric current is supplied to the electrodes 11, 12 to generate flash at the opposing end faces of the materials W1, W2 and pressure is exerted, whereby welding is performed.
