Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 3-substituted-5-fluorouracil derivative of formula I (n is O or an integer 1-2). EXAMPLE:3-(Tetrahydro-2-thienyl)-5-fluorouracil. USE:An antitumor agent and an antiviral agent. PROCESS:A compound of formula II (R1 is alkyl) is silylated with hexamethyldisilazane, etc. and the resultant compound is then reacted with a compound of formula III (R2 is halogen, alkoxyl or acyloxy) to give a compound of formula IV, which is then dealkylsulfonylated with a basic substance, e.g. NaOH, to afford the compound of formula I (n is 0). The resultant compound is then treated with an oxidizing agent, e.g. H2O2, if necessary to afford the compound of formula I (n is 1 or 2).
