Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily manufacture a long size composite filament wherein a core filament is sheathed with a pipe, by fixing a core filament to a floating plug which is then inserted into a pipe, and by forcibly moving a die and the plug together along the pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A core filament 1 is fixed tothe pointed tip of a conical floating plug 4 which is then inserted into a pipe 5a. The end part of the pipe 5a is constricted and its tip is fixed to a stationary pipe holder 2; a die 3 is set so as to surround the pipe 5a. The inner surface of the die 3 contacts with the outer surface of the pipe 5a from the constricted pipe end to the unconstricted large diameter zone, and the inner surface of the die 3 is located so as to face the conical surface of the plug 4 interposing the pipe wall of the pipe 5a. Under this condition, the die 3 together with the floating plug 4 is forcibly moved in the arrowed direction. The pipe 5a causes a plastic deformation and is constricted by the inner diameter of the die 3 to a thin diameter pipe 5b; hereby, a composite filament wherein the core filament 1 is sheathed with the thin diameter pipe 5b is easily manufactured.
