Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the distribution of stress uniform, reduce weight and efficiently utilize a material, by varying the thickness of the end portions of a leaf spring so that the section modulus is proportional to the distance from the end of the leaf spring and by shaping the both the width ends of the cross section as an arc of prescribed radius of curvature. CONSTITUTION:A tapered portion 4 is provided continuously to a thin portion 3 adjacent to a round portion 2 provided as the end part of a leaf spring. The thickness txof the tapered portion 4 is varied from the node 5 at the thin portion 3 toward the center 1 so that the section modulus is proportional to the dis tance X from the node 5. Each width end of the cross section of the tapered portion 4 is shaped as an arc of a prescribed radius of curvature 1/R which is predetermined in relation to th thickness tx. This results in making uniform the longitudinal distribution of stress of the tapered portion 4, reducing the weight, enhancing the coefficient of utilization of the material and prevnting cracks in the width-end part of the tapered portion 4.
