Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize the automatic adjustment of a shoe gap and prevent wrong action, by enabling the reduction of the turning force of an adjusting lever and the elastic engaging force for a pawl portion to a sprocket.
CONSTITUTION: When a pair of right and left brake shoes 2, 3 are opened away from each other by th turning of the lower end of a parking lever 9 at the application of a parking brake, an adjusting lever 11 is directly turned by a lever 9 against the force of an adjusting spring 12 on the basis of turning reference points, one of which is the point of contact A with a pin 10 on the brake shoe 2 and the other of which is the point contact B of a stopper 11d with the edge of the parking lever 9 inside a drum. As a result, a pawl portion 8d is swung upward. At that time, a strong shaft force remains applied to a strut 8 so that a sprocket 8d is prevented from being rotated by a frictional force based on the elastic engagement of the pawl portion 11c of the lever 11 with the sprocket 8d.
