Abstract
PURPOSE: After the polymerization in the presence of hydrogen in the first polymerization zone, the monomer is added to the second polymerization zone so that the molar ratio of hydrogen to the monomer is made lower than that in the first polymerization zone, the second polymerization is effected, the gas phase is circulated, thus producing the titled polymer with freely controlled molecular weight distribution.
CONSTITUTION: When multistaged polymerization of an olefin such as ethylene is conducted using separated two polymerization zones, that is, the first gas-phase polymerization zone and the second one, the catalyst, the monomer and hydrogen are supplied from pipes 1, 2, and 3 respectively to the first polymerization A. Then, the product accompanied with the gaseous monomer and hydrogen is taken out of pipe 6 and supplied to the second polymerization zone B. Additional monomer is fed from pipe 12 so that the molar ratio of hydrogen/olefin is kept lower than that in the first polymerization zone A to effect the second-stage polymerization. A part or all of the gaseous mixture expelled out of the second polymerization zone B through pipe 7 is sent through pipe 9, gas-circulation lines 4, 5 to the first polymerization zone A.
