Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure reciprocation and stopping of an original placing plate, to prevent scratch and damage, and to enhance safety in checking for maintenance, by providing a mechanism for engaging movement of the platen and a mechanism for maintaining its disengagement. CONSTITUTION:An original placing plate 10 reciprocates, a photosensitive drum 4 rotates, chargers 5, and the like devices around the drum 4 carry out given functions. Upon start of a copying process, a driven chain wheel 28 is rotated, and an endless chain 24 runs to raise a guide roller 22. An engaging lever 16 is rotated and displaced to sink a stopper piece 20 through a guide hole, thus permitting reciprocation of the platen 10 to be effected without any obstacle, because no obstacle protrudes from the upper face of an upper casing 2. The mechanism for maintaning disengagement 25 releases the engagement of the platen 10 by an engagement mechanism 17 and maintains its disengagement.
