Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a cyclic polysulfide, having a physiological activity, and useful as a crosslinking agent and partially novel in high yield readily, by reacting a chain or cyclic metallic sulfide with a halogen or sulfur mono- or disulfide.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic sulfide of formula I or II [R is formula III (R' is H or alkyl; n is an integer 2W8); R" and R''' are alkyl or aryl; M is Si or Sn] is reacted with a halogen, particularly bromine, sulfur di- or monochloride, preferably in a polar solvent, e.g. tetrahydrofuran or carbon tetrachloride, to give a partially novel compound of formula IV (m is 2, 3 or 4, and novel when m is 4) readily in a higher yield than the conventional method. According to the method, the compound of formula IV is separated readily from by-products, and the effect is particularly remarkable when M in the compound of formula I is Si. Therefore, the method can be relatively readily industrialized.
