Abstract
PURPOSE: To inexpensively manufacture the titled dial plate showing a high-class appearance by coating the surface of a dial plate with a colorless transparent inorg. simple substance by a vapor phase method after surface treatment by plating or other method.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet of brass or the like is punched by pressing, surface-patterned and surface-treated by plating or other method. In order to protect the surface treatment, the surface is coated with a colorless transparent inorg. simple substance such as SiO, MgF or Al2O3 having ≥ about 99.9% high purity by a vapor phase method such as vacuum deposition, sputtering, ion plating or CVD. The coated film may be baked. By this method a dial plate for a timepiece showing a high-class appearance can be manufactured inexpensively with a conventional apparatus.
