Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an unvulcanized synthetic rubber compound which does not need the addtion of a reinforcing filler and gives a vulcanized rubber having excellent mechanical properties, by blending aluminum salt of an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid as a crosslinking aid.
CONSTITUTION: A soln. of 3 moles of Na salt of an α.β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid (e.g. crotonic acid, sorbic acid, maleic acid or acrylic acid) is added dropwise to a soln. of one mole of AlCl3. Formed precipitate is filtered off to obtain Al salt of the α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. 5W30phr said Al salt as a crosslinking aid is blended with an unvulcanized synthetic rubber compound to abtain the titled rubber compound. A vulcanized rubber having excellent breaking strength, breaking elongation, tear strength, etc. can be obtd. by vulcanizing the above rubber compound.
