PURPOSE:To process a mark sheet similarly to a normal case even if the mark sheet is inserted upside down, by providing the first and the second discrimination patterns in upper and lower parts of the mark sheet and by detecting the discrimination pattern in the lower side of the mark sheet. CONSTITUTION:Even if a mark sheet 7 is inserted upside down, a fascimile transmitter 1 reads it normally, and mark information obtained by reading the mark sheet 7 is input to a facsimile receiver 5 through a line 2, an exchange 3, and a line 4. By this information, a mark detecting circuit 13 in the receiver 5 detects a reference mark 8 and the first or the second unique pattern 11 or 12. Next, the second unique pattern 12 is discriminated by a unique pattern discriminating circuit 14 becuase the mark sheet 7 is inserted upside down, and upside-down insertion is discriminated by this discrimination signal. This discriminated result is reported to a processing circuit 15. Only when the discriminated result of upside-down insertion is input from the unique pattern discriminating circuit 14 to the circuit 15, the order of mark information is inverted to perform the processing.
