Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit the given length of the tool to be sensed in machining by sensing the pressure fluctuation produced by the operation of a selector valve comprising a tool holder mounted on a rotating main spindle and a valve means sliding inside the holder. CONSTITUTION:When the tool holder 2 is mounted on the main spindle 1, an outer cylinder 18 is fixed to a quill, and compressed air is supplied for an air passage port through a coupling seat 36. When a machining command causes the main spindle 1 to move forward and a drill 7 to contact with a workpiece at a position a, a channel 9 of a valve means 8 connects air passages 12 and 11 together and a pressure switch connected to the passage 11 at a given feeding position (position b) of the main spindle 1 confirms the normality of the drill 7. When the bit of the drill 7 is worn and goes beyond the normal cutting region (position c) due to the increased thrust, channels 12 and 13 are made to connect with each other, and this permits the pressure switch connected to the air passage 11 to detect an abnormality until the valve means 8 contacts with the stop portion.
