CONSTITUTION:Liquid matching materials 9 are applied to tips of optical fibers 8a and 8b, and optical fibers 8a and 8b are inserted into sleeve 6 from both sides. Under the state where end faces of optical fibers 8a and 8b are matched to each other in the center of sleeve 6, rings 7a and 7b mounted on the outside circumference of sleeve 6 are caulked. Caulked rings 7a and 7b press flexible sleeve 6, and this sleeve is deformed, and the inside face of the sleeve is caused to adhere closely to outside circumferential faces of optical fibers 8a and 8b to fix and connect two optical fibers. Matching materials 9 are sealed closely in the connecting jig by the close adhesion between optical fibers 8a and 8b and sleeve 6.
