Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent fuel spray from being overlapped and locally formed with overrich mixture by providing a combustion chamber having a square type side wall capable of reducing the overlap of injection fuel.
CONSTITUTION: A combustion chamber 8 is constituted from the side surface portion 9 having linear wall surfaces 10 in the plane form and curved corners 11 which is constituted from an arcuate surface 12 having larger radius of curvature R2 and an arcuate surface 13 having smaller radius of curvature r. The arcuate surface 13 is disposed upstream of a swirl S in each corner 11. Thus, injection fuel 7 reaching the corner 11 is left at the corner to restrain the development of fuel spray upstream of the swirl S for reducing the overlap of injection fuel.
