Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the strength and the surface area of a catalyst and to adhere a large quantity of the catalyst to the inside surface of a cylindrical carrier, by dividing the cylindrical carrier into two equal chambers with a partition wall arranged vertically against the flat surface of the cylinder, making the thickness of the partition wall thinner than that of a peripheral wall, and thickening the wall part at which the peripheral wall and the partition wall are jointed together.
CONSTITUTION: A carrier comprises two chambers of the same size divided with a partition wall arranged nearly vertically against the radial flat surface of a cylinder. The cylinder has an outside diameter of 6W10mm, an inside diameter of 4W8mm and a height of 4W10mm. The relation of the thickness (bmm) of the partition wall with the thickness (amm) of the peripheral wall satisfies b/a= 0.4W0.8 (with the proviso of b>0.5). The thickness (cmm) of a built-up layer on the peripheral wall at a part where the peripheral wall and the partition wall are jointed together, satisfies c= e×0.1W0.3-d×0.5W1.5 (e is the inside diameter mm) in relation with a distance (dmm) circumferentially apart from the intersection point of the peripheral wall with the partition wall. The carrier is made of porous ceramics, silicon carbide, etc.. The carrier is suitable especially as a component of a catalyst such as titanium oxide, vanadium pentoxide, etc..
