Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect quickly and accurately a minute leakage of a heat transfer medium for the closed type heat exchanger by a method wherein a detection is designed so as to determine whether or not a marking substance mixed in one heat transfer medium is present in the other heat transfer medium.
CONSTITUTION: The marking substance capable of exhibiting fluorescence upon irradiation of ultraviolet rays is mixed in a primary heat transfer medium 1. When the primary heat transfer medium leaks, the leaking medium drops into a vessel 6 as drain water 5 while the marking substance is mixed in a secondary heat transfer medium 4. The drain water in the vessel 6 is then introduced into a leakage detector 7 where ultraviolet rays are applied on the drain water to see if visible fluorescence is exhibited from the drain water, whereby the presence or absence of the marking substance is detected to ascertain the leakage of the heating medium 1.
