Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the softening point of a phenolic resin within a proper range, by adding a specified alkylalkoxysilicon to the phenolic resin.
CONSTITUTION: An appropriate amount of an Si compd. of the formula [wherein (n) is 1W3; R is alkyl group with or without a functional group; R' is a 1W5C alkyl; provided that when there is a plurality of R groups and/or OR' groups, all groups may be different groups or part thereof may be different group(s)], is added to a phenolic resin such as a novolak resin or a resol resin, whereby the softening point of the phenolic resin can readily be raised within a proper range. By using the above method, a solid novolak resin or a solid resol resin can readily be obtd., and the above solid resin can be powdered.
