Abstract
PURPOSE:To stabilize potential, decrease overvoltage, prevent the uneven coloring of display and improve response speed by constituting the counter electrode of an electrochromic (EC) display device of a pressure molded body contg. specific active material and carbon powder. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 20 of the EC display device opposing to its electrochromic material 17 is put in plane contact with a conductive elastic material 24, whereby its contact resistance with a conductor 23 is decreased and electrical connection is surely maintained in the even of deformation failure of the electrode 20. The electrode 20 is formed by pressure-molding at room temp. the active powder, such as MnOx(x is 1-2), for electrode, and expanded graphite and carbon powder such as active carbon which is a good conductor of electrons and has a high capacity of the electric double layers produced at the interface with electrolyte 25. Since no binders are used in molding, there is no resistance increase by binders, and since it is not calcined at high temp., the phase transition of MnOx does not occur. In this way, the display device of stable potential and high response speeds free from any uneven coloring is obtained.
