Abstract

PURPOSE: To stir molten steel by convection and to make temp. uniform by mounting heating elements consisting of electricity-conductive refractories in the bottom of a ladle, and conducting electricity thereto thereby heating the molten steel in the bottom of the ladle.
CONSTITUTION: Two pieces of conductive heating refractories (for example, graphite-alumina) 3 are disposed in the bottom part of a lining 2 by nonconductive refractories of a ladle 1. The refractories 4 of high conductivity are connected to these refractories 3, and are connected to a power source 7 by lead wires 6. Molten steel 8 is put in the ladle 1, and voltage is applied to the conductive heating refractories 3, thereby heating the molten steel in the bottom part of the ladle. The heated molten steel induces convection in the ladle 1, thereby making the entire part uniform in temp.
