Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce lowering of the picture quality due to the white line, by utilizing the vertical blanking period to transfer electric charge generated in the vertical transfer part, in the solid image pickup device. CONSTITUTION:The frequency of vertical transfer pulse 21 during the vertical blanking period of approximately 1msec of the solid image pickup element is set to 250kHz or more, and residual charge in the transfer part is swept out during this period. Thus, at the time of the start of each vertical period, residual charge of vertical transfer register 12 is removed, and charge is filled only in the transfer register having a point defect, for example, transfer register B'. Charge generated due to the defect in the vertical transfer part is transferred similarly to transfer of signal charge, thereby erasing the white point of shortening the length of the white line.
