Abstract

PURPOSE: The condensation reaction between a novel and readily available 5-hydroxytetrahydrofuran-2-one and triptamine is effected in the presence of an acidic substance to produce the titled precursor used as a synthetic intermediate of vincrystine through simple operations in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The condensation reaction between novel (3S)-3-(2-ethylallyl)-5- hydroxytetrahydrofuran-2-one and triptamine is conducted in the presence of an acidic substance such as a lower fatty acid or organic sulfonic acid to give the precursor of physiologically active indole alkaloid of formula II. The same optically active isomer as the naturally occurring compound is synthesized and applicable to various kinds of purposes as physiologically active indole derivatives. The compound of formula I is derived from S-glutamic acid.
