Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent degradation of the focus characteristic of the cathode-ray tube, by detecting the average luminance level of the slave screen signal and by controlling this level to lower it when this level is a prescribed luminance level or more. CONSTITUTION:Slave screen luminance limiting circuit 44 is provided in the conventional device. Slave screen luminance limiting circuit 44 detects the average luminance level of the slave screen signal read out from field memory 41 and limits the luminance level if the video signal has a prescribed luminance level or more. The slave screen video signal where fluctuation of the average luminance level is limited and the master screen signal which is controlled in video processing circuit 13 by the ABL signal are synthesized by slave screen inserting circuit 12 and are displayed on cathode-ray tube 14.
