Abstract
PURPOSE:To occlude and treat hydrogen gas generating due to corrosion of the water sealed heat pipe or decomposition of the water as an operation liquid by a method wherein a metallic wire, a sintered metallic powder or a metallic foil which is capable of generating a hydride is provided in the heat pipe. CONSTITUTION:The metallic wire, the sintered metallic powder or the metallic foil which is capable of occluding hydrogen and generating the hydride in a heat pipe operating temperature range is provided at the condensing section of the heat pipe. The metal used for the wire, the powder or the foil must have such a property that with the use of the metal, the equilibrium hydrogen decomposition pressure of the hydride is in th order of 5X10<3>-5X10<4>Pa in the heat pipe operating temperature range and at room temperature it is below 5X10<3>Pa. As the generating hydrogen gas causes a temperature difference to take place within the heat pipe and deteriorates the function of the heat pipe even when it is only a few cc in quantity, it is necessary to generate the hydride in the above-mentioned decomposition pressure range.
