Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance useful as a monomer for the synthesis of a polymer, economically and in high selectivity, without a by-product, by heating a trihaloethane in the presence of a hydrohalide of 2-phenylimidazole and/or 2- methyl-4-ethylimidazole.
CONSTITUTION: A trihaloethane, e.g. 1,1,1-trichloroethane or 1,1,2-tribromoethane, is heated at 150W400°C, preferably at 230W320°C, in the presence of a hydrohalide of 2-phenylimidazole and/or 2-methyl-4-ethylimidazole, to give the aimed compound. The hydrohalide of the 2-phenylimidazole and/or 2-methyl-4-ethylimidazole may be preferably supported on a carrier, and silca gel may be preferred as the carrier.
