Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a simple and accurate identification for the picture characteristic, by deciding the characteristic of each type of picture such as the character, pattern, photo and the like with the parameter such as the deviation among the maximum, minimum and mean values of run length of the binary picture information. CONSTITUTION:The characteristic is decided for each type of picture such as the character, pattern, photo and the like by the run length structure composed of the deviation among the maximum, minimum and mean values of the run length of the binary picture information. For instance, the picture signal supplied from the scanner SCN is binary-coded by the comparator CMP1 and then stored in the page memory PM. The picture signal is also compared with the contents of ROM by the comparator CMP2, and the picture is binary-coded. Then the run length is counted by the run length counter RLC, and at the same time the photo region is decided by the CPU and with a prescribed method. And the coordinate is stored in the memory M2. In the same way, the coordinates of the photo and graph regions are stored in the memory M2. Then both the picture data and its decision region are transmitted via the CPU and in response to the requirement of an output device.
