Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the high rate characteristics of a battery by using a multilayered separator comprising a cellophane diaphragm and those made of other than cellophane especially such as ion-exchange resin, microporous material, or nonwoven fabric with oxidation resistance and alkali resistance, and setting the thickness of cellophane diaphragm to hold the specific ratio to the total thickness of the separator. CONSTITUTION:The separator comprises two layers, that is cellophane 9 and a film 10 of other than cellophane, or three layers, that is one cellophane 9 film and two films 10 which sandwich the film 9, where the film of other than cellophane is made of ion-exchange resin, microporous material, or nonwoven fabric with oxidation resistance and alkali resistance. The thickness of the cellophane film is designed to be 55-95% of the total thickness of the separator. Thus the high rate characteristics and the shelf-life can be improved.
