Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately cut an optical fiber by providing the clad fiber fixed part and strand fixed part of the optical fiber at both ends of a leaf spring, disposing an elastic material in the central part and providing scales on the side edges. CONSTITUTION:The clad in the end part of an optical fiber 10 to be cut is removed, and a clad fiber 6 is fixed by means of a self-adhesive tape 8 on the fixing table 4 on a leaf spring 1. A strand 7 is fixed thereto by means of a self-adhesive tape 5. The strand 2 on an elastic mat 2 is measured with scales 3 so that a desired length from the clad face is obtained and the cut position is scored with a cutter 9 of diamond or super alloy. The leaf spring 1 is bent to apply stress upon the strand 7, thereby cutting the same. Thereby, the optical fiber 10 is cut with good accuracy.
