Abstract

PURPOSE: A wet type underwater welding device which is opposedly provided with solid sliding walls allowing the tip part of a welding torch to contact base metals, and putting the other tip part of the welding torch installed with these sliding walls in an open state and which permits welding while checking the welding position and enable good welding effect to be obtained.
CONSTITUTION: To perform welding by using this device, a welding torch 4 is so postured that solid soliding walls 1 assume the position orthogonal to the direction where the gas ejected from a welding heat source floats in various welding positions. Thence, the sliding walls 1 are pressed to the surface of base metals 5 by the pressure of springs 3 in such a manner that the sliding walls 1 always maintain the contact with said surface. The operator starts welding while checking the welding position from the opened side and along with the progression of the welding, the slides and moves this device on the base metals 5, thereby performing welding. The ejected gas is escaped through gas outflow slits 2 or from the lateral open parts, whereby the intrusion of water is prevented.
