Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a defect-free high-temp. ingot at high casting speeds by straightening the ingot obtained from continuous casting of specified machine height by means of a pinch roll zone forming a multipoint arc then feeding the same to a horizontal roll zone of coarse pitches. CONSTITUTION:The ingot out from a continuous casting mold of the machine height kept at <=4.9m is introduced into a pinch roll zone formed of a multipoint arc of a small radius of curvature, whereby it is straightened. Following to this, it is guided to a horizontal roll zone in which small-diameter rolls are arranged at coarse pitches. Further, bulging stress is suppressed at <=0.4% over the entire length of this continuous casting machine. Thereby, the central segregation and internal cracking of the ingot are considerably improved and the high-temp. ingot owing to slow cooling is obtained at high speeds.
