Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a high contrast image with high reflecting density while using a little silver by adding a colorant such as a pigment which is not discharged or decolored by development or other processing to an image receiving layer by an amount required to well mask the color of an opaque support. CONSTITUTION:For example, support 1 is blackened with carbon black or the like, and a white pigment which contrasts strikingly with support 1 in light and darkness and is not discharged by development or other processing is dispersed in image receiving layer 2 so as to mask the black color of support 1. Soluble silver complex salt is diffusion-transferred to layer 2 from a silver halide emulsion layer and developed to form a silver image as shown by the oblique line part. The part is then removed with an etching bleach bath such as a soln. contg. CuCl2, citric acid and H2O2 to leave layer 2 of the white part, or the silver image part is bleached and tanned by tanning bleach, and the nonimage part is removed to disclose the black support. Thus, an image with sufficiently high density is obtd. while using a small amount (0.15g/m<2> as AgNO3) of silver.
