Abstract

PURPOSE: To sterilize water using ions generated from a metal at a high efficiency, by arranging a copper family metal directly and/or adjacent to the side surface of a semipermeable membrane at the side of the water to be disposed in a semipermeable membrane module.
CONSTITUTION: An untreated pleated membrane module 1 is attached to a device. A determined amount of fine grains of a cupric group metal are suspended in a water to be disposed. The water is cycle 5W10min through the membrane, to deposit the fine metal grains onto the side surface of the pleated membrane 4 at the side of the water to be disposed, into a space between the pleated membrane 4 and a net-shaped spacer 5 and onto the side surface of a spongy sheet 6 at the side of the membrane. The cupric group metal is a Group-Ib element in the periodic table, and contains silver and gold besides copper. The copper family metal has a small ionization tendency and generates a very small amount of ions in the water. Consequently, the consumption of the metal itself is very small, but the sterilization ability continues semipermanently.
