Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a mouthpiece from dropping off and cracking and reduce its cost, by providing a recess around a swirl chamber inside a cylinder head, coating a high-viscosity substance on the outside surface of the mouthpiece whose outside diameter is made smaller than the diameter of the recess, and then inserting the mouthpiece into the recess.
CONSTITUTION: A recess 7 is provided in a cylinder head 3. A mouthpiece 8, which separates a main combustion chamber 10 from a swirl chamber 9, is fitted in the recess 7. The diameter of the outside of the mouthpiece 8 is made by the thermal expansion length larger than the diameter of the recess 7. After a pastelike high- viscosity substance 16, 17 is coated on the mouthpiece 8, it is inserted into the recess 7 so that the mouthpiece 8 is prevented from dropping off. When the cylinder head 3 is secured on a cylinder block 1, the mouthpiece 8 is supported by the cylinder block 1 through the medium of a gasket 4. The mouthpiece 8 is thus kept from dropping off and cracking. Furthermore, the mouthpiece 8 can be made from a cheap material of not high resistance to thermal shock.
