Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the shock absorbing performance at a collision by the use of an air cushion as a bumper and to generate an obstacle detection signal and vehicle speed reduction signal by the use of the changes of the air pressure.
CONSTITUTION: According to an increase in the inner pressure of an air bag 1 used as the bumper expands a bellows 2 which is supported resiliently by a spring 3. When the air cushion bumper comes into contact with an obstacle, the air pressure within the air bag 1 increases so that the air flows partly into the bellows 2. As a result, the bellows 2 expands against the spring 3 so as to operate a limit switch 5 and the like to generate a speed reduction signal.
