Abstract

PURPOSE:To lessen the number of transmitting optical systems by a method wherein a temperature gradient produced inside is reduced by using a plurality of frequency-gradually-multiplying crystals to raise the efficiency of the gradual multiplication of frequency and the high-frequency wave and the reference wave which are oscillated are combined by utilizing the difference in polarization surface between the two. CONSTITUTION:A reference-wave beam 7 from a laser-beam generator 1 is given to a polarization face rotating apparatus 11 of a Pockels cell type, the apparatus 11 is driven by a driving circuit 12 and rotated alternately at an angle of 90 deg. and thereby beams separated into two polarized electromagnetic radiations whose polarization faces are perpendicular to each other are generated from a reflecting mirror 13 for separating radiation. The respective radiations thus separated are given to a frequency-gragually-multiplying apparatuses 2 through the intermediary of a reflecting mirror 4 and the reflecting mirror 13 for separating radiation. Moreover, the high-frequency beams 8 and the reference beam 7 generated by the crystals of the respective multiplying apparatus 2 are made to fall on glan polarizer 14 and the fluxes of the beam 7 and 8 from the respective apparatus 2, whose polarization faces are perpendicular to each other, are made parallel, and the beam 8 is made to fall on the optical system 6 for harmonic component, while the beam 7 is made to fall on the optical system 5 for reference wave. As the polarizer 14 is used the composite escape-type glan polarizer or a dielectric multilayer film polarizer, whereby the number of the transmitting optical systems is reduced.
