Abstract

PURPOSE: A diaphragm of sintered perovskite type oxide is provided and one side surface is irradiated with light to shift the oxygen on the other side to the irradiated side, thus forming an oxygen pump.
CONSTITUTION: A diaphragm 1 of sintered perovskite oxide of the formula (A is Ca, Sr, Ba; A' is Sc, Y, a lanthanide element; B is Ti, Zr, Fe, Mn), in the Figure symbols 3 and 4 mean fluorine resin layers covering both surfaces of the diaphragm, is set to the outer wall of the vessel from which oxygen is to be removed, as a part of the wall. Then, light with an energy higher than the band gap of perovskite oxide, e.g., light of fluorescent lamp or mercury lamp, is irradiated on the outer surface of the diaphragm 1 to shift the oxygen through the diaphragm to the irradiated surface, resulting in disoxidation in the vessel. The oxygen pump is suitably used in a rice-boiler.
