Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain adenine of high purity and whiteness, by separating adenine prepared from an arylazomalononitrile with a pH adjustor or an inorganic salt added thereto from a by-product, and decoloring the adenine in the form of an inorganic salt.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction system of crude adenine prepared from an arylazomalononitrile is adjusted with an alkali to a pH of 7.5W9.0 or mixed with 10W 100%, preferably 25W50%, based on the residue, inorganic salt, preferably sodium sulfate (Glauber's salt), and heated to dissolve the adenine. The hot mixture is then filtered and separated from the reaction by-product containing the catalyst and then mixed with a mineral acid e.g. sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid, to reduce the pH to a value at which the inorganic salt of the adenine is formed. The resultant crystal is decolored with active carbon under heating, and the filtrate is neutralized and crystallized to purity the adenine.
