Abstract

PURPOSE:To mass-produce quarter wavelength films superior in heat resistance, transparency, water resistance, etc., at low cost by orienting a film of a polycarbonate polymer in one direction so that the absolute value of retardation is 95- 170nm. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate polymer is formed by blending polycarbonate or copolymerized polycarbonate and a polymer well compatible with them. This is made into a film having 6-95mum thickness by the solution casting method, etc. This film is oriented by a constant-width uniaxial stretching machine, etc. In this case, the absolute value of rtardation in the direction perpendicular to the main orienting direction should be 95-170nm. Thus, quarter wavelength films superior in heat resistance, transparency, water resistance, etc., can be mass-produced as films or sheets at low cost.
