Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a sintered diamond die excellent in the lubricating performance by forming an oil groove in its surface contacting with the rod material while serving in the wire drawing work, from the intermetallic binding diamond grains or the diamond grains for the use of cutting edges, both in the specified particle sizes.
CONSTITUTION: The above-mentioned diamond grains in the particle size 30W300μm are filled in a previously sintered hard alloy made ringlike container which is thereupon inserted into a high pressure vessel in which the container is heated by a heater made of graphite or the like. Hereupon, NaCl, etc., is suitable for the pressure medium. The sintering work is carried out under a pressure higher than about 450Kb and at temperatures higher than temperatures generating an eutectic liquid phase between the diamond and the metal to be bound within the region wherein the diamond holds the structural stability, say about 1,100°C. Then, a preparatory hole is bored in the sintered body by means of laser irradiation, etc.; thereafter, the sintered body is finished by the lapping work using the diamold grains in order to form the die hole and to grind. Finally, the purposed sintered diamond die possessing the mutually communicating oil grooves is obtained. This die develops the effect of lubricating oil to the maximum in case a rod material, possessing strength higher than 150kg/mm2 after passing the wire drawing work, is drawn into the wire at a high speed.
