Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the weight of an upper die supporting frame and improve working accuracy by providing a mechanism of transmitting the reaction of the cylinder mounted to either one of dies to the other die in a working machine.
CONSTITUTION: An inner panel 2 is placed on an outer panel 1, and is carried onto a lifter 16. An uper die 9 is lowered to a fixed position by operating a cylinder 11. A pad 14 determines the position with the stepped part 2b of the inner panel 2. The upper die is further lowered unitl a locating pin 35 fits into a locating hole 34, whereby the positions of a hemming die 5 and a lower die 3 are determined. Pressurizing hooks 37 are engaged with the notches 12a of a platen 12 by a hydraulic cylinder 40. A hydraulic cylinder 38 is operated to bring the upper die 9 closer to the lower die 3 by way of a connecting rod 39, the pressurizing hooks 37 and the platen 12, whereby both panels 1, 2 are pressurized by the pad 14. When the upper die 9 descends further, the hemming die 5 presses the end edge 1a of the panel 1, whereby primary hemming is accomplished. This end edge part 1a is bent until it covers the top surface of the flange 2a of the panel 1 by another hemming machine, and this completes the hemming.
