Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an emulsion for daylight room with extra-low sensitivity to visible light and high sensitivity to an ultraviolet light-rich light source especially for a printing field by preparing silver halide in the presence of a specified amount of a water soluble rhodium salt so that a specified amount or more of AgCl is contained. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide emulsion contg. >=90mol% AgCl is prepared in the presence of a water soluble rhodium salt such as RhCl3. The amount of the salt used is 10<-3>-10<-5>mol/mol of silver halide. The Rh salt is uniformly distributed in silver halide particles and on the surfaces by adding the salt especially to a halide soln. To the prepared emulsion may be added additives such as a stabilizer and an antifoggant. This emulsion has high sensitivity to an ultraviolet light-rich light source such as a xenon or mercury lamp used in a printing field, slightly causes fog, and shows a high contrast. It can be handled in a daylight room shielded from ultraviolet rays.
