Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable disturbing materials to be peculiarly and perfectly removed with substantially no loss of the ketone bodies in the urine to be examined by allowing the specimen liquid for inspecting the ketone bodies based on nitroprusside reaction to contact with active carbon. CONSTITUTION:About 200mg active carbon is filled in a glass column of a 6mm. inside diameter packed with a small amount of asbestos cotton at its leading end and finally a small amount of asbestos cotton is packed, whereby the active carbon layer is fixed 15-20ml. The urine to be examined of which the liquid characteristic has been controlled to <=3.0pH by adding a 1N hydrochloric acid is flowed in this column and is allowed to flow by gravity. The effluent up to 7.5ml after the commecelent of the outflow is discarder and the effluent near 8.0ml is subjected to simple inspection for ketone bodies. One drop of the urine having undergone this pretreatment is dropped onto test paper, and after about 30sec, the degree of its coloring is decided, whereby the ketone body inspection based on nitroprusside reaction is accomplished. Thereby, reaction disturbing materials are perfectly eliminated with virtually no loss of the ketone bodies in the urine to be examined of the patient dosed with beta-lactam type antibiotics, and the reliability of the ketone body inspection is improved.
