Abstract
PURPOSE: To coat the surface of rod or bar with double layers of insoluble stearic acid film, by forming an insoluble stearate film on the surface of rod or bar after the descaling pass, by further applying insoluble stearic acid to the surface of above- mentioned stearate acid film just before feeding into the drawing pass, and by setting the latter stearic film upon the former stearate film by the effect of pressure and heat generated by the drawing work.
CONSTITUTION: The descaled rod 1 is sent to the phosphate solution spraying unit 6 which applies phosphate such as zinc phosphate to the rod surface; next, the stearate solution applicator 7 applies water-soluble stearate such as sodium stearate to the surface of the above-mentioned zinc phosphate film. The zinc phosphate reacts with the sodium stearate and an insoluble zinc stearate film is formed upon the surface. Next, the rod is dried up by the drier 8, and is passed through the insoluble stearate container 9; hereby, the powdery aluminum stearate, for example, adheres upon the surface of the rod 1, which is then passed through the die 10. The rod 1 is drawn into a specified diameter, and at the same time, the aluminum stearate adhering upon the surface is fixed upon the stearic acid film by the effect of pressure and heat generated by the drawing work.
