PURPOSE:To enable measurement of flow speed and flow rate without being influenced by various vibration noises by a method wherein a pressure corresponding to a Karman's vortex is made to act on a cylindrical resonant unit in the state that it is self-excited with its natural frequency and thereby the resonant frequency is modulated. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical resonant unit 2 makes self-excited oscillation with resonant frequency omegaD under the condition that no current exists in fluid to be measured in a pipe line 1, and when the current starts to appear, the Karman's vortex is generated with frequency omegaF corresponding to the flow speed at both side surfaces of the cylindrical resonant unit 2 facing the direction of current. By the generation of the vortex, differential pressure is generated alternately at both side surfaces of the cylindrical resonant unit 2 and thereby the resonant frequency omegaD is modulated. Accordingly, by outputting the vortex frequency omegaF obtained from a phase demodulating circuit DM through scaling by a scaler 3C and by performing operation by an operation circuit CP, mass flow rate Q can be found.
