Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a pillar free from weld deformation by forming a pillar of a rectangular section through arc welding of the respective ends of an outer member and an inner member. CONSTITUTION:Each of an inner member 2 and an outer member 3 has a U-shaped cross section and a changing width widening from the upper end toward the lower end. The widths of the inner member and the outer member are determined so that the inner member 2 closely fits in the outer member 3. The respective flanges 2a and 3a are the same in length or the length of the flange 3a is greater than that of the flange 2a. The inner member and the outer member are joined with their opening side facing each other by welding the end of the flange 3a to the side surface of the flange 2a by arc welding to form a pillar 4 of a rectangular cross section.
