Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent sudden breakdown of recording and reproduction prior to the switching of tape running direction, by operating a level attenuation means through the output of a tape and detector and gradually lowering the level of a recording or reproducing signal. CONSTITUTION:When a tape 7 closes to the end during recording and an output is supplied from a tape end detector 12, this output actuates a control circuit 14, the level of recording signal is gradually lowered with the operation of a muting circuit 15, and it is zero when the end of magnetic substance of the tape 7 reaches the front surface of a magnetic head 6 or slightly before the end, avoding the recording signal from being fed to the head 6. Thus, in reproducing this tape, the reproduced tone is gradually smaller near the tape end to avoid sudden interruption, allowing to give excellent reproduced tone without unpleasant tone to ears.
