Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform purification testing of exhaust gas in the same manner as for the exhaust gas of an actual automobile by mixing the respective component gases constituting a combustion exhaust gas in a manner as to assume predetermined composition by a mixer and introducing these mixed gases into a reactor having a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Component gases such as N2, CO, HC, NOx are introduced into a mixer 1 from respective cylinders 131-137 through flow rate regulators 141-142 so as to assume the composition of the exhaust gas of actual automobiles, whereby they are mixed. These mixed gases are introduced into a reactor 16 packed therein with the catalysts 8 which perform oxidation of CO and HC and reduction of NOx, whereby the oxidation of CO and HC to CO2 and H2O and the reduction reaction of NOx to N2 are performed. The treated gases are analyzed in an analyzer 17, and the activity of the catalysts are tested. Thereby, the mixed exhaust gases of the same composition as that of the exhaust gas of actual automobiles are easily obtained and the reactivity of the catalysts is rapidly judged as well.
