Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat medium having a high softness, excellent feeling in use, and a high stability when being subjected to a repeated cycle of humidification and cooling, by adding a specific PVC derivative to water or a water-lower alcohol mixed solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A highly water-absorptive PVC derivative with cross-linkage based on ester bonds and carboxyl groups on side chains is obtained by the reaction of a PVA polymer having a polymerization degree of 300W3,000 and a saponification degree of 50W100mol% with a cyclic acid anhydride, e.g., maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, etc., in a solvent, e.g., benzene, toluene, etc., at 30W200°C for 30min to one hour. Then,0.5W10wt% said PVA derivative is added to water or a water-lower alcohol mixed solvent.
EFFECT: The heat medium has good heat and cold insulating properties and excellent softness even when frozen at cold temperature.
