Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a binder for fire retardant glass fibers, which is excellent in water resistance, flame resistance, and storage stability from methoxymethylol melamine resin, methylol urea resin or methoxymethylol urea resin, and a guanidine salt.
CONSTITUTION: A binder contains 100pts.wt. one or more amino resins, selected from methoxymethylol melamine resin of a methylation rate of 30% or more and a methylolation rate of 70% or more, methyl urea resins of a methylolation rate of approx. 20% or more, and methoxymethylolation rate of approx. 20% or more, and 10W100pts.wt. guanidine salt and/or a guanidine salt-formaldehyde reaction product. Using said binder, a glass fiber structure which is excellent in heat resistance, sound absorbability, insulating property, fire retardancy, etc., can be obtained.
