PURPOSE: To prepare the titled composition having both coronary vasodilating activity and erythrocyte deformation promoting activity, and containing trapidil as a main component.
CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition having cerebral and peripheral blood flow improving activities is prepared by using 7-diethylamino-5-methyl-s- triazolo-[1,5-a]-pyrimidine (trapidil) as a main component. It has been determined that the compound of formula which is known as having coronary vasodilating activity has erythrocyte deformation promoting activity or cerebral and peripheral blood flow improving activity, and accordingly, the compound is found to be useful as a remedy for sequela of cerebral apoplexy, peripheral circulation insufficiency, etc. The troubles of blood flow in the cerebral or peripheral capillary vessels are supposedly caused not only by the factors of the vessel but also by the change in the characteristics of blood, especially by the lowering of the deformation capability of erythrocyte. The compound of formula is effective to both factors.
