Abstract
PURPOSE:To considerably extend the service life of the commutator by a method wherein a metal piece and an abrasion-resisting material are laminated, a commutator segment is fabricated by bending said laminated material into C-shape and the commutator is manufactured by fitting both ends of the commutator segment to the grooves provided on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The metal piece 1 and the abrasion-resisting material 2 such as a silver palladium alloy and the like are laminated, and it is bent into almost C-shape in the manner that the abrasion-resisting material layer 2 comes to outside and a leg section 5 is located on both sides. The roots of the leg section 7 are formed making an arc by rounding. The metal piece 2 of the commutator segment 1 is contacted to the surface of the substrate 4, the leg sections 5 on both sides are fitted to the grooves 6 provided on the substrate 4 and the commutator A is formed. Thus, as the commutator segment 1 has no edges, the arc is hardly generated between brushes and the service life of the commutator can be prolonged because its surface is covered by the abrasion-resisting material 2.
